Answers, tradeoffs and next steps

Use the sections below to evaluate fit, not to predict approval.

Official PAL rules are specific

NCUA states that federal credit unions may offer PALs I and PALs II. Its current materials describe PAL I amounts from $200 to $1,000 with one-to-six-month terms and a membership waiting period, while PAL II was created to provide additional short-term small-dollar options. The page always checks the current credit union’s actual product before displaying eligibility. NCUA_ACCESS

The federal credit-union rate ceiling is not the payday-loan market rate

NCUA’s current guidance preserves the ability of federal credit unions to charge up to 28% on qualifying PALs while the general federal credit-union ceiling is separately set. This is a product-rule distinction, not a promise that every credit union offers PALs. NCUA_RATE

Time-to-access can be the trade-off

If a user is not already eligible for the relevant credit union/PAL or cannot meet the deadline, the page makes that timing explicit. It does not hide a membership requirement in fine print simply because PAL cost is generally lower.
